Our New Address

This poem was born out of a Bible Study Zone lesson called “Our New Address,” where we learned from First Thessalonians chapter 1, verse 1 that the church is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ — and if you belong to Christ, this is your address too.

Wherever you are in the world today, be still for a moment, and receive this word.

I know my street,
I know my town,
I know the roads I walk each day.
But when I ask
where I truly live,
The Word of God shows me the way.

My address is not made
of brick or stone.
It is not a number on a door.
I live in God the Father
and in the Lord Jesus Christ —
my dwelling place forevermore.

The world may move,
the seasons turn,
and every earthly house grows old.
But I am dwelling in God Himself,
held safe in hands that keep their hold.

So when the morning finds me here,
before the day takes me along,
I say my address out loud with joy:
I live in God —
and I belong.
